University of Lagos (UNILAG) African Cluster Centre (ACC) Postdoctoral Fellowship in African and Diaspora Studies 2021

The African Cluster Centre at the University of Lagos (Nigeria) is presently taking applications for its postdoctoral fellowship in African and Diaspora Studies, which will be awarded in 2021. Applications for the UNILAG African Cluster Centre Fellowship must be submitted by August 30, 2021.

The African Cluster Centre (ACC) at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in African and Diaspora Studies lasting up to six months. The fellowship program is designed to support early career scholars and/or junior faculty whose research interests are focused on or related to African Studies and the overarching agenda of Reconfiguring African Studies. It is funded by the African Multiple Cluster of Excellence at the University of Bayreuth under the auspices of Germany Excellence Strategy.

Postdoctoral fellows are usually housed in the Lagos ACC’s research departments at the Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS). The IADS, one of West Africa’s fastest-growing academic research institutes, conducts interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research as well as addressing issues affecting Africa, Africans, and the Diaspora.

The successful applicant will be supervised by a specialist with relevant and related expertise. In addition, they will be expected to participate in IADS teaching activities and contribute to other research activities connected to their project. They will also be expected to publish at least one article in a highly recognized peer-reviewed journal during the fellowship time, and present a lecture in the ACC/IADS’ Principal Investigators (PIs) Monthly Lecture Series.

In terms of remuneration, the fellowship covers travel costs, accommodation, and a daily or monthly stipend.

Duration: 3 to 6 months’ period.

Interested applicants must submit the following:

  • Soft copy of Ph.D. certificate
  • A two-page summary of Ph.D. thesis
  • A three-page proposal on postdoctoral research topic
  • Recent Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Two reference letters

UNILAG African Cluster Centre Postdoctoral Fellowship Eligibility.

  • Interested applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree which must have been awarded not earlier than June 2016;
  • Applicants’ subject areas must be within the Humanities, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, and other Africa-related fields;
  • The call for application is open to all interested young scholars across the world;
  • Applicants must possess good communication skills in English or French language or both;
  • Qualified academics from the University of Lagos are also eligible to apply.
