We remain resolute in our commitment to protect you — Security chiefs assure corps members

Welcome to NYSC Foundation – Support for Service

Ondo State’s security chiefs have unanimously decided to secure serving and prospective corps members who will be deployed to the state.

When the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Ani, came to visit their respective Commands, they talked separately. The security chiefs vowed to increase visibility around the orientation camp as well as Corpers’ Lodges in each of the Sunshine State’s 18 Local Councils.

Brigadier General Yakubu Yahaya, the newly posted Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Cantonment, Akure, said that NYSC as a development of the Nigerian Army during the time of General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) as Head of State and Commander in Chief will remain a treasure to the military.

The fine officer, who previously served as Camp Commandant in a NYSC camp, stated that his command has the capacity to gather intelligence while also improving the security network in all nooks and crannies of the state. The Nigerian Army authorities, according to General Yahaya, have strengthened the military formation’s security infrastructure in order to combat the numerous security threats the country faces.

General Yahaya stated that the Nigerian Army authorities have improved the security infrastructure of the military formation in order to combat the various security threats that the country is currently facing.

“The State Coordinator, we cannot begin to discuss about the security network and operational details so that those who are troubling this country will not have fore knowledge of how we operate but I want to assure you that we are on top of security situation in the land.

“Please, you need to tell your staff and corps members to take their personal security as priority. By our arrangement, they might experience little inconveniences during the orientation course but I want to say that it is for their own good ultimately,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police of Ondo State Police Command, CP Bolaji Salami, stated that one of his Command’s main mandates is to protect lives and property.

“NYSC and Nigeria Police are children of the same parent and the bond between the two federal institutions is so strong that priority attention is always accorded the Scheme at all times.” CP Bolaji said that the corps members are distinguished members of the society because of their roles in nation building and the Nigeria Police will continue to invest in their security.

“Distinguished corps members are from different parts of the country and it is our responsibility to protect them from whatever threat you can think of so that the service year would be memorable and fulfilling.”

Mr. Adediran stated that his Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, would continue to ensure the safety of corps members serving not only in the state, but also throughout the country.

“Our security network covers all the communities and we shall not hesitate to beef up security and provide more safety measures in and around NYSC formations and Corpers’ Lodges in the State.”

The State Coordinator’s concerns about recent events in Ikare Akoko, where the camp is based, were allayed by all of the Security Chiefs. According to them, the State’s Security Committee had checked and relaxed the state’s 24-hour curfew, which had been enforced following a communal clash in the ancient town the previous week. Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, the State Coordinator, had paid courtesies.

Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, the State Coordinator, paid a courtesy call on the Security Chiefs to seek their support for her administration and to assist in beefing up security around members of the service corps, especially those who would be coming to serve in Ondo State.
