Admissions applicants to the University of Benin (UNIBEN) have been warned against racketeering practices by the university’s administration. Dr Benedicta Ehanire, the university’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), said on Saturday that racketeers had been raising large amounts of money from unsuspecting applicants in order to encourage entry.

Swindlers often walk into the university’s admission offices and administration building to make their sinister deeds appear true, according to Ehanire.

As a result, the PRO cautioned the public not to fall victim to such schemes, noting that there was no fee for admission to the university.

He did, however, urge any survivor of the heinous act to return to her office with evidence in order to help the university repair its reputation. Whistleblowers, she said, would be considered for admission if they were eligible.
