The Senate approved a bill on Wednesday that would elevate Yaba College of Technology to the status of a Federal University of Technology. A bill to create the Federal University of Birnin-Kebbi in Kebbi State was also passed. Following the assessment of two different recommendations by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND, the authorisation for the founding of both institutions was granted. Senator Nora Daduut (APC, Plateau South), who submitted the report on behalf of the Committee’s Chairman, Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita, said the Federal University of Birnin-Kebbi will meet Nigeria’s personnel demands in the areas of geosciences and technology, as well as general agricultural practices, as a boost for solid mineral exploration, scientific and social research, Scientific and social knowledge are being used to promote cutting-edge research in Nigeria and abroad. This is to alert all Ekiti State University (EKSU) undergraduate students that the institution’s management has declared the registration deadline for the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic session. The management of Ekiti State University, Ado – Ekiti has decided that all students must finish registration for the first and second semesters of the 2019/2020 academic session without punishment by 11.59 p.m. on Monday, May 31, 2021; while registration with penalty must be completed by 11.59 p.m. on Monday, June 7, 2021. This decision was taken during an interactive session with university students on Friday, May 21, 2021, which was attended by representatives of the University Management and Senate, as well as other stakeholders such as sub-Deans and Level Coordinators. The Students’ Union Government, Executive members of various Students’ Associations at Faculty, and other students were present to represent the students. The Students’ Union Government, Executive members of several Students’ Associations at the Faculty and Departmental levels, as well as Class Governors, represented the students. As a result of the foregoing, it has been agreed that the University Portal will remain open for registration and revalidation until 11:59 p.m. on June 7, 2021, when it will be permanently closed. A rainfall on Saturday demolished classrooms and staff offices at Government Secondary School, GSS, Wokkos, Pankshin local government area of Plateau State, exacerbating the school’s lack of study spaces and other facilities. Amos Bitrus, a school graduate, said the school started off at a local primary school before moving to its current location in 1996 with community-donated infrastructure, but there are still gaps in the school’s facilities. Although the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) office constructed two classrooms and a staff office to solve the infrastructure deficiency roughly four years ago, the intervention was insufficient to address the existing challenges. The roofs of two self-help Community buildings, which were fashioned with locally produced mud bricks and provided by the Parents Teachers Association, PTA, added to their difficulties.
