Prof. Adeniyi Olatunbosun, Vice Chancellor of KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, has requested that the Federal Government include students at private universities in its plan to provide N150,000 per session to students in education faculties at public universities.
This was said by the vice chancellor at a news conference held on Monday in Ibadan to mark the start of the university’s first convocation.
He stated that the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, would deliver the convocation lecture, and that the Minister of Works, Mr Babatunde Fasola, Otunba Subomi Balogun, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji would also be present during the ceremony where degrees would be awarded to 52 first set of graduates of the school.
The Federal Government announced N75,000 each semester for undergraduates studying education in public institutions at this year’s Teachers Day celebration.
However, the VC stated that extending the same gesture to all departments and involving students from private universities in the scheme will improve learning across the country.

He said, “Whatever is obtainable in federal and state universities should be replicated in private universities as well.
If Federal Government can extend such a gesture to the private institution, it is most welcome.
“If the Federal Government can also extend it to other programmes as well, it is for educational advancement.”
The vice chancellor also announced that the founder of the university, Chief Kola Daisi, would be installed as the first chancellor of the university at the grand finale of the convocation
“KolaDaisi University is poised to carve a niche for itself in areas like Law, Mass Communication, Accounting, Business Administration/Entrepreneurship, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science and of course Medicine.
“Plans are already in top gears to establish a Medical School, which is the founder’s passion after Law, and experts from various fields of Medicine had already constituted a Planning Committee to work towards the actualisation of the project.
“However, in the meantime, programmes like Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science will be established and domiciled in the Faculty of Basic and Medical Sciences. It is our hope that in the nearest future the University’s Teaching Hospital will rank as one of the best in the country.
“Good enough, we have a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Ibadan, which the National Universities Commission as our mentor and by extension the University College Hospital (UCH). With the good rapport being enjoyed with these Institutions, our University will leverage on their expertise to build on and surpass,” he added.
