NUC Grants Sokoto Varsity Approval To Run Postgraduate

The commission also approved 16 new undergraduate programs for the public university, which will begin in the 2021/2022 academic year.

This is stated in a statement signed by the school’s information officer, Zayyanu Shehu, on behalf of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Muhammed Dangoggo.

He also revealed that the NUC, in a letter dated November 8, 2021, signed by its Director of Academic Planning, Dr. N. B. Saliu on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, had considered and approved the establishment of postgraduate programmes for the University, effective with the 2021/2022 academic session.

They include M.Sc. Sociology; PhD Sociology; PGD Development Studies; Master of Development Studies; Master in International Relations and Strategic Studies; M.Sc. Political Science; PhD Political Science; Postgraduate Diploma in Education; M.Ed. Educational Management; PhD Educational Management; M.Ed. Mathematics Education; M.Ed. Computer Science Education; PhD Mathematics Education; M.Ed. Physics Education; and PhD Physics Education.

Others are M.Ed. Biology Education; PhD Biology Education; M.Ed. Chemistry Education; PhD Chemistry Education; M.Ed. Guidance and Counselling; PhD Guidance and Counselling; M. A Islamic Studies; PhD Islamic Studies; M.A Arabic; PhD Arabic; M.A History; PhD History; M.A Hausa Studies; and PhD Hausa Studies.

The rest are M.Sc. Mathematics; PhD Mathematics; M.Sc. Chemistry; PhD Chemistry; Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science; M.Sc. Computer Science; Postgraduate Diploma in Microbiology; M.Sc. Microbiology; Postgraduate Diploma in Biochemistry; and M.Sc. Biochemistry.

Meanwhile, the sixteen additional undergraduate programmes approved for the University are B.Sc. Plant Biology; B.Sc. Industrial Mathematics; B.Sc Information Technology; B.Sc. Statistics; B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry; B.Sc. Biotechnology; BA.(Ed) English Education; BA (Ed) History Education; B. Ed. Integrated Science; and B. Ed. Social Studies.

Others are B.A(Ed) Arabic Education; B.A(Ed) Islamic Studies Education; B.A(Ed) Hausa Studies; B.Sc(Ed) Geography Education; B.Sc(Ed) Political Science; and B.Sc(Ed) Education Economics.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the development came as a result of the commission’s successful resource verification visit to the University. However, in response to the news, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dangoggo, stated that the conclusion of the visit did not come as a surprise to them.

He assured me that the university’s efforts would continue to be directed on making it an enviable institution. According to Prof. Dangoggo, the University was founded in 2009 and began academic operations in 2013. It now offers 23 undergraduate programs that are fully accredited.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the Commission for its ongoing efforts to maintain the standard of utmost excellence.

He also conveyed the University’s heartfelt gratitude to the University’s visitor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State, for his dedication to raising the standard of the University, in particular, and the education sector of the State as a whole.

He also thanked the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. (Dr) Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Emir of Dutse, (Dr) Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi, for their respective contributions to the University’s growth and development.

Prof. Dangoggo further praised the Management, State Ministry of Higher Education, and Members of the Governing Council for their collaborative efforts.

While thanking the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Aminu Salihu Mika’ilu, Deans of the Faculty, and other members of staff for their dedication to the success of the exercise. He also praised the solid working relationship between management, the State Ministry of Higher Education, and members of the governing council.
