UI Senate recommends reappointment of acting VC for another six months

The Senate of the University of Ibadan (UI) has recommended that Prof. Adebola Ekanola be reappointed as interim Vice-Chancellor (VC) for another six-month term to the Governing Council. Following a stalemate in the appointment of a substantive Vice Chancellor, Ekanola, a Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, was named Acting Vice Chancellor on December 1, 2020.

The Act that established the institution stipulates that an acting vice chancellor serve for six months, which ends on May 30. Mr Olatunji Oladejo, the university’s Director of Communications, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Monday.

Because every member of the Senate was present at the meeting where the decision was made on Monday, Oladejo said he was unaware of any opposition to Ekanola’s reappointment.

I am only interested in the decision of the Senate of the University, not about speculations. “Individuals at the Senate meeting had the opportunity to canvass for the position today, how come those speculating didn’t win there? “Everybody talked and canvassed their opinions there and it was agreed that Ekanola should be reappointed,” he said.
