Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, Governor of Osun State, has authorized the renaming of Teachers’ Establishment and Pension Office (TEPO) to Teaching Service Commission.
According to a statement issued by the Coordinating Director of the Ministry of Education, Kehinde Olaniyan, the reversal is effective immediately.
Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola established TEPO to supervise the recruitment, welfare, and pension administration of teachers in the state, replacing the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).
As a measure of decentralization, Aregbesola established a TEPO office in each of the three senatorial districts, which is overseen by Tutor Generals/Permanent Secretaries.
The reversion, however, became necessary as part of the administration’s policy and institutional reform in the education sector, according to the statement.
The statement reads, “In continuation of the Policy and Institutional Reform on-going in the Education Sector of the State, His Excellency Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the Governor of the State of Osun has approved that Teachers Establishment and Pensions Office (TEPO) reverts to its constitutional and Original Name of Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the reversion takes immediate effect”.
Other educational measures implemented by the previous administration were reversed by Oyetola, including the single school uniform, school names, and the reversal of the 4-5-3-4 to 6-3-3-4 policy.
