NGOs play for charity, seek funds to sponsor 100 girls’ education

Three non-governmental organizations (NGOs) competed in a charity football event yesterday, with the goal of transporting 100 girl children to school.

Wise Women With Initiative (WWWI) organized a charity tournament with the subject “Securing the Future of the Girl Child” at the Area 3 Football field in Abuja.

WWWI won the first match 1-0 over Prestigious Ladies Club, while Ladies Link held Wise Women With Initiative Team B to a goalless draw in the second encounter.

Following the games, WWWI President Chinyere Francis stated that the contest was held to raise awareness and finances for the sponsorship of 100 girl children to attend school.

“We have a lot of girl children out of school and it’s very important for us to pick them off the streets and secure their future. We know football is one sport that brings people together and that is why we engaged other NGOs to support this noble project,” she said

On her part, the secretary of WWWI, Ese Ekorhi, urged the government and well-meaning Nigerians to support the project in order to protect girls from early marriage and social vices.

“I’m calling on every Nigerian to support this project, they can donate through our website, we intend to enroll the children to school and also train them on vocational skills” she said.
