Lagos schools, pupils shine at Maltina school games

The Lagos State team shone brightest at the Maltina School Games Competition, winning the overall Best State award with 21 gold, 15 silver, and five bronze medals.

The awards were given to students from Ijaiye Housing Junior and Senior Secondary School, as well as Euba Junior Secondary School. These two schools’ athletes took home millions of Naira for themselves and their schools.

The Education Commissioner, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, attributed the achievement to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanw-investment Olu’s in developing students to excel not only in academics but also in co-curricular activities, at the official prize presentation held last Thursday at the Ministry of Education Conference Room.

The Commissioner, who was portrayed by Mrs. Titilayo Solarin, Tutor General/Permanent Secretary Education District I, praised the Nigeria Breweries, the producers of Maltina, for providing generous incentives and rewards to students who have distinguished themselves and made the State proud.

“Lagos State Students are gifted and as a state we have continued to create various means of showcasing them to the World,” she said.

Mrs. Kehinde Kadiri, Portfolio Manager, Non-Alcoholic Drinks, NB Plc, said she was inspired by the group of talents in Lagos State Schools as she presented the cash gifts to the recipients. Kadiri encouraged the winners to always aim for excellence.

Ojo Joy of Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Secondary School won first place in the senior category in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relays. She earned a reward of N500, 000 as well as an extra N1, 000, 000 for being the overall best athlete.

Okon Moses of Euba Junior Secondary School, Mushin, received a reward gift of N500, 000 for winning gold medals in the 400M, 4x100M, and 100M in the junior boys’ division. Anifowoshe Sikirat of Ijaiye Housing Estate Junior High School received a reward gift of N500, 000 in the junior girls’ division after winning gold medals in the 100m and 4x100m. Ijaiye Housing Est received a cheque for N5, 000,000.00.

Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Secondary School in Education District I received a cheque for N5, 000,000 for being named Overall Best School.
