Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) Gold Medal Prize 2021

Nominations for the Nigerian Academy of Science’s Gold Medal Prize are now being accepted. Nominations for the Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) Gold Medal Prize must be submitted by July 25, 2021.

The Nigerian Academy of Research (NAS) established the Gold Medal Prize in 2016 to honor worthy Nigerian scientists who have made important contributions to science with national and global significance.

The prize, which consists of a Medal, a Certificate, and a Purse, is given annually, alternating between the Life and Physical Sciences.

The prize for 2021 will be given in the field of Life Sciences.

Nigerian Academy of Science Gold Medal Prize Nomination Guidelines

  • All Nigerian citizens, both inside and outside the country (excluding Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Science), are eligible for the award.
  • Candidates may be nominated by any Nigerian citizen, including Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Science.
  • Each nomination requires the participation of at least two people, one of whom is designated as the corresponding nominator, whose bio data must be included with the nomination.
  • Nominations must be made exactly in accordance with the nomination format outlined below, with each person submitting only one nomination form (the nomination format may be downloaded from NAS website)
  • In addition to submitting the completed nomination form signed by the candidate and nominators, nominations must be accompanied by:
    • A two-page curriculum vitae of nominee
    • a list of all of the candidate’s major publications
    • ten copies of the most significant publications
  • The prize can be given to a single person or as a group reward for work done by several people in the same subject of life sciences.

Selection Criteria for Nigerian Academy of Science Gold Medal Prize

Selection will be guided by the following criteria:

  • A doctoral degree or its equivalent is required of candidates.
  • Active participation in the field of Life Sciences research
  • Published publications, patents, innovations, and meritorious intellectual property rights reflect scientific achievement.
  • Moral uprightness;
  • Contribution to excellence in basic/fundamental or applied research, for work done mostly in Nigeria but having international repercussions and potential global applicability;
  • Outstanding, innovative, and ground-breaking contributions to the advancement and development of the human condition through the use of science are universally acknowledged.
